Label Compatibility
Label requirements.
Our applicators are calibrated to specific roll, gap, and surface tolerances. Sending labels and containers that meet these specifications keeps your project on schedule and within estimate.
Roll diagram
Required roll specification
Labels feed off the top with copy facing out, left side leading.
3 inch cardboard core required for our applicator chucks.
Maintain 1/16 – 1/8 inch between labels for sensor read.
Diagram is illustrative. Reference the spec table for tolerances.
Roll spec table
Standard pressure-sensitive roll labels. Custom configurations require approval before shipping.
- Unwind direction#4
Labels feed left-side leading off the roll.
- Core size3 inch
Standard cardboard core required for applicators.
- Max outer diameter12 inch
Maximum roll OD that fits our machines.
- Gap spacing1/16 – 1/8 inch
Consistent gap between labels for sensor read.
- Leading edgeLeft side of copy leading
Copy oriented to lead from the left of the web.
- Label positionCentered on liner
Unless an alternate position is approved in writing.
Roll condition
Rolls must arrive in working condition.
Damaged or non-conforming rolls cause runtime stoppages. We inspect every inbound roll before scheduling production.
- Clean liner with no debris, adhesive bleed, or marking
- No crushed rolls or compression flat spots
- No excessive curling or memory deformation
- No damaged edges, torn liner, or missing labels
- Cores intact and undamaged
Container surface
Containers must accept pressure-sensitive adhesive.
Surface condition is the most common cause of unscheduled rework. Containers should arrive clean, dry, and stable for handling.
Accepted
- Clean surface
- Dry surface
- Oil-free and dust-free
- Compatible with pressure-sensitive adhesive
- No major dents or surface deformation
- No loose caps, leaking product, or condensation
Not accepted without review
- Greasy, oily, or powder-coated residue
- Wet, frosted, or condensing surfaces
- Deformed, dented, or out-of-round bottles
- Loose closures or product leakage
- Excessive static or anti-static coatings without approval
Compatibility notice
Labels or containers that do not meet compatibility requirements may require hand application, rework, additional setup time, or may be declined. Final production approval is required before work begins.
